You say “Goodbye” and I say “Hello”, “Hello”, “Hello”.

Hello everyone,

I want to officially say Hello to you all! My name is Kelsey (but you can call me Kels) and I’ll be writing for this site from today. Pete has done a marvellous job with Sourmash Music, and I only hope I can continue his success with interesting posts and a glimpse into the the world of new music.

So a little bit about me?

As well as previously working together, Pete and I share a massive love of anything Beatles and Noel Gallagher related, two things that will stick with me for a long time! and we have a very similar taste in music! Currently I work for the one for the worlds largest music and entertainment retailers, but I always find time in my day for music (whether I’m listening to it or casually singing along to the radio) and it’s been a massive part of my life from an early age.

So how about you?

You’ll soon find out that I’m very diverse when it comes to my music tastes, anything from beautiful instrumental pieces by bands like Explosions In The Sky right up to the polar opposites with Hip Hop from A Tribe Called Quest and American Hardcore from bands like Every Time I Die and Alexisonfire. But I want to know what you all like too!

What am I loving at the moment?

Aside from religiously following anything to do with the current Mercury Music Prize nominees, of which the competition is extremely tight this year – all the nominated albums have been of exceptional quality!!

Here are the nominees just in case you’ve not seen them:

Current favourites?

I’m totally mesmerised by Lucy Rose right now, the perfect balance of folky guitars and a hauntingly beautiful voice – an album definitely worth listening to if you get the chance. Below is the lead single ‘Bikes’ from her debut album ‘Like I Used To’.

Another massive influence at the moment, and an album that hasn’t left my iPod since it’s release is Frank Ocean and his superb debut album ‘Channel Orange’. Definitely something a little different for fans of a bit of everything from contemporary R&B, gospel, blues, jazz and electro. Below is the song ‘Pyramids’ from his debut album ‘Channel Orange’

As a little introduction leave me a comment with your favourite song by your favourite band! I’ll be interested to see who everyone loves to listen to and even why if you wish!

Thank you, and I hope you like what’s coming up!!

If I Had A Gun – Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds (AUDIO STREAM)

So yet another song was released yesterday for Noel Gallagher’s solo album. LA Radio Station, KROQ, posted this little gem up from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds album. ‘If I Had A Gun’ has already done the rounds in its bootleg form of a soundcheck that was recorded about 2-3 years ago, but this version is obviously much more completely and even more epic.

Instead of keeping it in its simplest guitar/vocals form, that you would have originally heard, there are swirling guitars and euphoric keys in the mix now too. So anyway have a listen and leave your comments underneath.

The Sourmash Top 10 (25/07/11)

So ok it’s not quite Monday, I am a little bit late with posting this up this week, so my apologies. It has been a real strange and sad few days. Losing someone as talented and as wonderful as Amy Winehouse, was a big shock to everyone. Regardless of what other peoples opinions are on her personal life, she was an incredible human being and had one of the best voices of the last 25 years. She will be missed and forever remembered.

My Top 10 this week include my favourite Amy track plus 9 other cracking songs that I am buzzing off right now. First up is no surprise really as I had not stop talking about it all day!!!!!

The Death Of You And Me by Noel Gallagher

So at exactly 8.15am this morning, Noel Gallagher’s debut solo single got it’s first airing on BBC Radio 2. For some of you that follow me on Twitter will know I was just a tad excited this morning to hear what “The Chief” had to offer. I waited and waited and the time came, a rush of adrenaline and chills down my spine, then it arrived!!

Noel looking reflective!

Not knowing what to expect, as Noel as kept everything regarding his solo album very close to his chest. Amazingly very few people would have heard the single before this time, so it was fresh and new for millions of people on this Monday morning. So what are my thoughts……

A lot of talk about it not being Oasis, not being very Rock n Roll, but I just want to say have a listen to the last couple of Oasis albums and Noels input on them, The Chief has chilled out. He is writing more reflective and creative songs that push the imagination just that little bit more. “The Death Of You and Me” is full of epic hooks and is certainly a world away from classic Oasis. It’s dreamy, serene and simply magical with a touching sentiment that is uplifting and a perfect accompaniment to the summer.

Personally, I think it is a wonderful song, if I am being at my most honest, not what I was expecting, but I think that’s what Noel plans to do, surprise us! As the video says at the end….. To Be Continued
