Young Kato

Evening friends!

Just a quick update and some new sounds for you all to enjoy!

Any Indie fans out there by any chance? I have quite the love hate relationship when it comes to Indie music, for one just how wide and overlooked the genre is as a whole. Secondly, how people seem to have a preconception of this genre and how its very ‘hipster’ and ‘samey’. Myself? I love this genre, particularly grimy, guitar based indie rock.

There are A LOT of brilliant indie guitar bands out there for you all to enjoy, and being in my early 20′s I must admit (although I’m not all that proud of it) during my teens I grew up in the MTV era, driven by reality shows like The Hills, The City and more recently and a bit closer to home my guilty pleasure Channel 4′s Made In Chelsea.

Now I know what you’re all things…. OH LORD!! I know… How could I right?

Well when watching the season premiere on Monday, I was astonished to see the MIC crew at The Barfly in London watching and bopping their heads along to a band called Young Kato…

I instantly fell in love with their summery, upbeat noises and their INCREDIBLY catchy lyrics.

Check out their video for Drink, Dance, Play below – Now available along with their debut self titled EP on iTunes for a cracking £2.49!!

Enjoy,

Kelsey

Thousand Autumns

I’d like to introduce you to Thousand Autumns, local boys, a London 5-piece that release their second EP “Chasing Boats” for free download on April 1st. This is the post-hardcore quartet’s second release, following on from their debut EP, ‘City Of Sun’ released in February 2010, which gained a huge following from Kerrang!, Rocksound and XFM.

Having the EP produced by Romesh Dodangoda (Bullet For My Valentine, Lostprophets, Funeral For A Friend) at Outhouse Studios, it really shows off what Thousand Autumns can do, and you’re ears are in for a treat. ‘Chasing Boats’ includes heavy, crashing riffs, epic breakdowns and beautifully melodic choruses. Let’s hope this EP gains even more attention than ‘City Of Sun’ did, I’m sure the boys are headed for massive things!!

Thousand Autumns have toured all over the UK, sharing the stage with the likes of Hawthorne Heights, Exit Ten, Fei Comodo, Polar, Heart In Hand, All Forgotten, Mallory Knox and The Smoking Hearts.

For Fans Of: Alexisonfire, Thrice, Story Of The Year

Please Please Me

Afternoon everyone,

I wanted to post up for you today about a band that mean the absolute world to me. They have been part of my life since I was a little girl, I was brought up listening to them, and now they’ve reached a massive landmark, not that the Fab Four weren’t massive to start with…

Yesterday, March 22nd 2013, saw the The Beatles debut album Please Please Me reach it’s 50th birthday!

After speaking to my Dad about his memories of this album, and although he was only 11 at the time of release, he can remember Please Please Me going straight to number 1 in the charts, the chaos it caused and the start of “Beatlemania”. Ultimately it began his journey into the world of music and his love of The Beatles, which has been passed down to me.

Now I, being 22 still listen to and love their music, it isn’t just great music to me, it’s memories of childhood, music that provokes a happy and care-free mood and something that changed the music scene in so many ways 50 years ago.

So I pose this question to my readers…

What is your FAVOURITE Beatles album or song and WHY?

Swim Deep – The Sea

How about a little something to lift those winter blues?

Image

Swim deep are a Birmingham four piece, you may not have heard of them but they’ve just layed down their first full length record.

In their words, Swim Deep have said they sound like Duran Duran mixed with One Direction. And they’re being serious. To me though, they capture the sound of the summer, of lazy afternoons and midday sunshine – with a bottle of beer in hand of course!

Definitely a breath of fresh air, and a very good mood lifter for this long winter we seem to be stuck in the middle of right now!!
