Lets Talk About: Triptides

Hi Friends,

It’s been a while I know (sorry!), I’ve been quite poorly and I’ve been traveling the length and breadth of the country with my company looking at the new releases due for this Christmas (oh gosh yes I did say it…). It’s due to be a good’un, that I can promise you!

But today I want to introduce you to a band that will instantly lift your mood.

So who are the Triptides?

If you could channel the sound of summer on a Californian beach and bottle it up this is what you’d get!

Starting out as a small bedroom project of Glenn Brigman (guitar/vocals) and Josh Menashe (bass/vocals) in 2010, the Triptides soon found a sweet spot for themselves on the American underground scene. Having caused quite a stir playing to festival crowds and packed basements, November 19th sees the release of the bands debut album ‘Sun Pavilion’.

Guaranteed to bring a little sunshine to (what seems so far a wet and dreary) October, the appropriately named album opener ‘Bright Sky’ is full of fun and vitality – including the perfect mix of rich, warm vocals and twangy guitars that’ll send you back to summers passed.

It pretty much sums up their beautiful summery sound and the happiness contained in the album, which is a brilliant introduction to the band themselves and a good peek into the world of surf and psychedelic rock for those who haven’t experienced it yet. The Triptides are certainly bringing back the old school and making retro cool again.

So give Triptides a listen and let me know what you think, I can guarantee it’ll brighten your day!

New Noise… The Deadsets

I got a very confident email about a month ago saying, “A great band making a lot of noise” and “Unsigned and very exciting”. Can’t really ignore that kind of bravado now can I. So I present to you fine people, The Deadsets.

The Deadsets

Coming out of Swansea with 18 months of writing and recording under their belts, The Deadsets are at the moment coming at you in full force and there’s no letting up. With a huge sound, best suited for stadiums, these guys take influences from the likes of Oasis, Kasabian, Lennon and echoes of the classic spaghetti western soundtracks. Within this recording process they put together a small EP promo for reviewing purposes and fucking hell its epic and so cleverly constructed. They have honed their craft down to a T and every single song is a statement of intent.

The band is currently in the middle of recording their debut album entitled “Hang The Romantics”, and if what I have heard so far is anything to go by, it’s shaping up to be an exceptional record. Mammoth sounds embroiled in a scope of Morricone and raw guitar punk. They have high ambitions and their music certainly reflects this huge fearless, self-assured attitude that they exude by the bucket load.

Don’t believe me? Check out this track ‘The Death Of Suzie Jane’

For more info on the brilliant Deadsets, you only have to head over to their Facebook page.

New Noise… Azekel

Something exciting and innovative in the shape of East London singer/rapper, Azekel. Pushing boundaries in the realm of Dub and Pop, here’s why you should check him out.

Azekel

A self taught musician, Azekel has taken a more original approach in his delivery. Certainly not your bog standard “grab a couple of beats and slap some bass on it” kind of guy, no Azekel is someone who propels himself forward and knows no boundaries. At just 21, he seems to have a fountain of knowledge when it comes to Soul, Hip Hop and RnB. With complex beats and creative genre fusing melodies, combine that with deep tones and imaginative rhymes, you are close as to how defining Azekel is.

A perfect introduction to the man himself is his one and only release that is out, his single ‘New-Ish’. This is exactly what I have been talking about, the man knows how to deliver and you can see the video here….

You can also download ‘New-Ish’ too on Azekel’s bandcamp page, for FREE! So if you like what you hear support him.

Also if you are in the area, 21st July, see’s a live performance from Azekel at the legendary YoYo’s night at Notting Hill Arts Club, so make sure you come down!

New Noise… Plant Plants

Now for a long overdue New Noise… feature for you, one of which that comes in the shape of oddball electro pop twisters, Plant Plants. The duo from London create an amalgamation of infused math rock with effect pedal ‘Talking Heads’ electronica. It’s a mind bending soundscape that captures the imagination and simply mesmerises the listener.

Plant Plants

The one thing that amazes me about these guys is how complex the music is, but there is not a laptop in sight. It is live instrumentation from the bottom up, whether that be using fuzz pedals or samplers, it’s all them. They have just released an EP  simply entitled ‘Plant Plants’ and it was released on the 20th June through ‘Less Music’. Produced by the brilliant Jas Shaw of Simian Mobile Disco, together they have conceived this magnificent piece of work that combines digital sampling, parallel vocals and intricate guitar work. Songs like ‘Hands That Sleep’ and ‘She’s The One’ are just spellbinding examples of two innovative minds at work.

If you want to hear exactly what I am talking about, go no further as I have a free track right here for you to download….

For more info on the band you can visit them on Facebook and MySpace if you so wish.
